Kannawidan FestivalKannawidan Festival, it is the Festival that not only the City of Vigan celebrates but the whole province of Ilocos Sur. Kannawidan is a variant of the Ilocano word "tawid" meaning heritage or inheritance. It commemorates the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. Last February 2, 2023 was the 205th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Ilocos Sur. The celebration is considered as the prime festival of the province and is visual and is a feast for the indigenous costumes, dances, and songs, religious rituals, cookfest and trade fairs that showcases distinctly Ilocano products. Kannawidan Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices and traditionds, and a showwcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province.
Kannawidan festival has always been fun and exciting, but then Covid 19 happened. It was the time when they need to temporarily stop the celebration o Kannawidan. It is because it s really dangerous to hold a concerts and contests. After 2 years, Kannawidan is finally back. Here, you can experience and witness the whole indigenous performances, religious rituals, and more. Kannawidan Abel Iluko Fashion Show, Kannawidan Street Dancing, Battle of the bands, Kannawidan Float Parade, Kannawidan LGBT Festival Queen are just some of the activities that people do. Abel Iloko, Bagnet, Pinakbet are just some of the products of Ilocanos that you can try here. Kanawidan promotes the rich culture of Ilocanos.
Kannawidan has always been part of people lives here, and if you ask them how they feel about it, I can ensure that you'll only hear positive comments about it. It is always fun. The Government of Ilocos Sur never fails to impress and to put smile on the faces of their people. A lot of Filipino artists are coming and celebrating this festival with us and that's why Kannawidan has always been fun. This year, Mikael Daez joins Meghan Young and Sophia Senoron hosting the Miss Ilocos Sur 2023 pageant. As a Bigueño, I am happy and proud to be celebrating Kannawidan festival. It never fails to impress me. Overall, Kannawidan was great this year, and I am looking forward for more years to celebrate this festival.
